Meghan Markle is adding another accomplishment to her entrepreneurial portfolio, this time with a focus on the beauty and wellness industries.
The Duchess of Sussex has made a strategic investment in Highbrow Hippie, a Black-owned hair care and wellness brand founded by her longtime hair colorist, Kadi Lee, and entrepreneur Myka Harris.
This partnership marks a significant step for Markle, who has consistently used her platform to champion causes related to female empowerment and support for minority-owned businesses.
Highbrow Hippie, originally a lifestyle blog founded in 2012, has evolved into a full-fledged brand that blends beauty with holistic wellness.
The brand’s new product line includes a scalp serum and a hair supplement, specifically designed to address issues like hair thinning, postpartum shedding, and the hormonal changes that often affect hair health.
The official announcement of the investment was made at a star-studded launch event held on November 14, 2024, at Venice’s Gjelina restaurant.
Markle, along with other beauty industry insiders, celebrated the milestone and took the opportunity to present Lee with a bouquet of roses from her Montecito garden—a personal and thoughtful gesture symbolizing their strong connection.
“I am so proud to invest in Kadi as a friend and as a female founder,” Markle shared with InStyle. “Kadi has a mastery of hair health, and her Highbrow Hippie collection is a perfect reflection of that.”
Markle’s support for Highbrow Hippie is part of her broader initiative to elevate women entrepreneurs, particularly those from underrepresented communities.
This latest investment follows her previous collaborations with other female-led ventures, such as Cesta Collective, a sustainably sourced handbag brand, and her own upcoming lifestyle brand, American Riviera Orchard.
The Highbrow Hippie founders, Lee and Harris, bring decades of experience in the beauty industry, with Lee having styled some of Hollywood’s most famous names over the course of her 25-year career.
Their brand reflects their deep understanding of the intersection between hair care and overall wellness, offering products that promise fuller, healthier hair in as little as three months.
Markle’s involvement with Highbrow Hippie is a shining example of how women supporting women, especially in industries where representation matters, can lead to transformational outcomes.
